ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia

The ACCESS Open Minds network is a pan-Canadian initiative to show how youth mental health services can be transformed, improving access to appropriate mental health & addiction services for youth aged 11-25 years.  ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia is a partnership between Bluewater Health, Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent, and St. Clair Child & Youth Services. 

ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia will offer on-site integrated mental health and addiction services for youth as well as serving as a bridge to other services and supports in our community. 

ACCESS clinicians will provide ongoing support and guidance from start to finish, ensuring follow-through on the road to appropriate care. At all times, the youth is the ultimate judge of whether their needs are being met and the services provided are appropriate.

We are currently seeking youth interested in serving as Youth Advisory Council Members for ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia-Lambton.

YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL MANDATE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To act as a forum to discuss and to plan youth engagement within ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia-Lambton and the child and youth mental health service system
  • To actively participate in the co-development and design of a local ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia-Lambton
  • To create a safe and youth-friendly space that promotes inclusivity and active engagement
  • To act as an ambassador for youth and ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia at key community planning tables, public events, and other associated activities
  • Attend monthly youth advisory meetings
  • To promote and to facilitate partnerships with various ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia-Lambton stakeholders
  • To provide input and advice with regards to various aspects of the ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia-Lambton and the child and youth mental health service system
  • To contribute to human resources and hiring processes at ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia-Lambton
  • To actively engage in working groups associated with specific tasks relating to both ACCESS Open Minds Sarnia-Lambton and other system-level planning (i.e. policy development, site selection, etc.)
  • To create criteria for youth space and youth engagement within the Network
  • To identify annual priorities and collaborate on a workplan

Membership:

The Youth Advisory Council will consist of a maximum of 12 youth representatives (ages 11-25).  Members are expected to make a one-year commitment, with the possibility to renew the term.
